Pride & Pages, an Evening with Jonathan Groff
Lancaster, PA - September 14th, 2024 - Lancaster Pride hosted a two-part fundraising event for the Lancaster Public Library at the Lancaster County Convention Center. Headlining the fundraising endeavor was Tony Award winning actor and Lancaster native, Jonathan Groff. The day’s events started with two sessions of Story Time Reading with Ms. Amie and Jonathan Groff. The in-person seats sold out within 48 hours after being released. The readings were also streamed live on several social media platforms to ensure accessibility for all interested, regardless of physical limitations, ability to obtain a ticket, or geographical hurdles.
The second event of the day took place later in the evening, Pride & Pages an Evening with Jonathan Groff, Lancaster Pride’s first ever gala! The Gala saw over 600 people in attendance, food and drink service, showstopping entertainment, and of course, Jonathan Groff. Hosted by Amethyst Diamond and Nevaeha Le’Vixenn, The Gala featured another Story Time Reading with Ms Amie, insightful speeches from several Lancaster Pride Board Members, inspiring yet humbling words from Jonathan Groff, and drag performances (to include a special performance of Let It Go by Karma Sutra). Let us also not forget that the Gala was a cocktail attire event, and participants did not disappoint! Gala attendees sparkled, shinned, and glamoured their way into the Convention Center and onto the dance floor.
Seeing the waves of love and support was truly inspiring. In addition to proceeds made from ticket sales, attendees had the option of donating at the event or participating in a silent auction, all benefiting the Lancaster Public Library and Lancaster Pride. Speakers at both events talked of the future of pride in Lancaster, overcoming adversity, and not succumbing to hate. Embracing one another’s differences and being happy with who you are were repeated messages throughout the entirety of the day and into the evening. A truly proud event indeed.

It is with this support that the Lancaster LGBTQIA+ community can flourish, thrive, and love. The Lancaster Pride Board will continue to search for avenues to express our appreciation of each and every LGBTQIA+ individual and ally while simultaneously providing opportunities for this community to grow safely.
